Why I love attending TimberNook of Central Ohio

By Jr. Reporter for NW Columbus Macaroni Kid, Sophia, Age 8 April 4, 2019

One of our Jr. Reporters for NW Columbus Macaroni Kid recently shared with us why she loves attending camp at TimberNook of Central Ohio. This summer will be the third summer she will attend a camp at TimberNook.

TimberNook is a fun place where kids can go to play in the forest.

You can explore new places in the forest like me and my friends. There are animals on the farm like pigs, cats, chickens, and horses.

At camp we do stories, art, feed the horses and so much more.

There’s a train that drives you into the woods (the Nook) from the farm and then there are surprises on the way to get into the woods like pictures of owls and other animals. There’s a part in the forest where you can climb stuff. In the forest, you can go to the creek, go on swings and go on a hammock. In the creek, you can find a hidden area that’s so beautiful when you look up.

Everybody at camp is nice and fun and they help each other. There are really kind grown-ups and helpers.

Some of my favorite parts of camp are:
1. A mud area-where it’s all muddy and you can swim in the mud. You can get messy anytime you want.
2. The bubble slide we do at the end of camp
3. Making new discoveries in the forest like new paths and finding things like fossils

Together, they will enjoy many adventures -- inspiring hours of pretend play out in the wild.

Storybook

We’ll be doing everything from building a house out of real bricks, sticks, and hay out in the woods to re-enact the classic fairy tale, The Three Little Pigs to creating a shoemaker’s shop in the woods after hearing the story, The Elves and the Shoemaker. With the turn of every day, comes a new story for the children to experience and lots of FUN!

Extreme Art (Only Two Spots Left)

This week is about art -- gone wild. Children will be doing everything from creating forts out of Paper Mache to rolling down hills wrapped in bubble wrap in order to paint life-sized canvases. There will also be plenty of time for free play, cooking over an open fire, and games in the wild. If you think your child will enjoy whole-body sensory art experiences than this is the program for them!

Times: 9am – 12:30pm
Ages: 4 - 10 years

Enchanted

Children will dive deep into their imaginations, as they enter the world of Neverland in the woods. Children will create life-sized pirate ships, a pixie hollow, “lost boys,” and “lost girls” hideouts. They will enjoy everything from pirate wars to walking the plank to hunting for treasure in the most unexpected places. This week is sure to inspire and create lasting memories for years to come.

This program emanates childhood days past. A traditional TimberNook program where young children have unique play experiences that challenge their mind and body in beautiful natural settings, followed by hours of free play out in the wild.
