What we love about Prairie Oaks Metro Park:
Prairie Oaks is a 2,203-acre park in the West Jefferson/Plain City area. My kids and I started at the playground—and they would have been happy spending the whole day there! There’s lots to climb on, room to run, and some really fun slides. Part of the play area is shaded, which was very welcome on the hot day we chose. There are prairies with lots of wildflowers (and wildlife), surrounding the playground. After exploring a couple of trails, we hopped in the car and drove five minutes to the Lucas Rd entrance. The park has several lakes, and this entrance brings you right to Beaver Lake. You could fish, or kayak, but we walked the trail winding around the lake. There are lots of areas to get down and explore the shore (or sit in the mud and eat sandwiches as we did). This is definitely going to a favorite park to go back to.
