Ohio’s Sales Tax Holiday

Save money in Ohio for Back To School!

By Robbi S. Publisher Mom, NE and NW Columbus Macaroni Kid July 30, 2021

This year, Ohio’s sales tax holiday is from Friday, August 6, 2021 at 12:00 a.m. to Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Ohio shoppers will be able to take advantage of the annual tax-free weekend.  In addition to the tax-free weekend, many retailers are also running promotions to get your back-to-school shopping money.

Just don't plan on a major appliance or electronic purchases because those are not included in the tax-free weekend.

During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:

  • An item of clothing priced at $75 or less;
  • An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
  • An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.

Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.

There is no limit on the purchase total, just the price of each item.  For example, $15 backpack + $20 jeans + $25 coat+ $20 shirt= $80 and is tax exempt.
