Moser’s Straw Bale Maze

Kid Designed. Kid Built. Kid Friendly. Kid Approved.

October 13, 2023

Fourteen-year-old Joey Mashburn of Powell, recently built a unique gift for kids this Fall at Moser’s Farm Market and Barn on Clark-Shaw Road in Delaware, Ohio.

Joey, who works closely with owner Brad Moser at the market, typically helps with everything from breaking down boxes, trimming and mowing the surrounding property to restocking produce and unloading pumpkins. But when Brad asked Joey earlier this Fall if he could design a straw bale maze for kids, Joey took up the challenge immediately.

Joey is home-schooled and had been working with the CAD program ‘Sketch Up’ in his curriculum. Brad shared with Joey the dimensions of the straw bales and the room he had for the maze. From there, Joey used the program to create the maze and help to build it with more than 300 straw bales. “It’s been fun to see it come to life,” said his mom Christin Mashburn. “Each time I go to the market now our younger three kids want to go too so they can run through the maze their brother built.”

The straw bale maze is free for visitors to the market during market hours.
Wednesdays – Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The market is open until October 29 and is located at 3350 Clark-Shaw Road.
